Ceasefire?

@MustafaBarghou1

The Israeli government finally approved the ceasefire agreement last night with 24 votes against 8. The ceasefire will go into effect at 8:30 a.m Palestine time. 33 Israeli prisoners will be released in the first stage in exchange of releasing 1904 Palestinian prisoners including women, children and 1167 Palestinian captives in Gaza.

Since the declaration of the agreement the Israeli army continued viscous bombardment of Gaza killing 122 Palestinian civilians including 33 children and 33 women . Among the killed a father and a mother of Alqidra family and their three children . The general surgeon of Al Shifa hospital Dr. Said Nabhan was also killed with his father. He had lost his son in a previous Israeli air strike .

Reactions:

@jeremyscahill: The Israeli cabinet has approved an arrangement where Israel will heavily bomb & attack Gaza from now until Sunday. It will then try to get as many of its captives freed as possible and then look for ways to continue its war against Gaza. That’s how the deal is being spun.

Archiving Genocide: I do not trust the ceasefire deal. I believe that as is customary for Netenyahu, they will accept the deal and then violate it because there is no one to stop them or hold them accountable if they do.

@philipgiraldi If my instincts on this are correct, Israel will strike as hard a bargain on the ceasefire as it possibly can, creating conditions or interpretations that will enable it to back out and resume military operations after claiming mythical violations on the part of Hamas. It will be able to resume hostilities while still obtaining the release a number of its hostages, which would be a boost for the Netanyahu government.

Qatar’s Prime Minister reveals the Gaza deal Israel just signed has been on the table for 13 MONTHS, since Dec 2023 “13 months of a waste, of negotiating details that [have] no meaning and aren’t worth any single life that we lost in Gaza, or any single life of those hostages”

Commentator on the Hebrew channel i24News Zvi Yehezkali: “There are already joyful celebrations in Gaza. The hardest thing for me this morning is to see these scenes. The elite are back in the vehicles, the vehicles that slaughtered us, the people who slaughtered us. 15 months of fighting and we have not succeeded in changing the equations of war in Gaza. Actually I ask myself, what have we done here in a year and five months? We destroyed many homes, and offered our best sons, and in the end the result is the same formulas. Hamas is happy, aid enters, and the elite returns.”

Israel just released the list of 95 Palestinian prisoners who may be released in the coming days: – 6 are kids; none convicted – 4 held without charge or trial – 79 who have not been convicted of a crime including 27 being held without charge or trial. Mass incarceration is an Israeli tool of control.

Netanyahu says Trump “emphasized” to him that the ceasefire is “temporary,” and Israel will have “full backing” to resume the war in Gaza. He says Trump has decided to “lift all the remaining restrictions” on US munitions, allowing Israel to resume the war with “tremendous force”

20 Jan 2025: My friend in the West Bank: “The ceasefire does not include the West Bank, especially the northern area where we live. The army announced that it would begin comprehensive military activity and has already begun isolating villages and sites from each other by means of barriers. At this moment, the sound of military helicopters does not stop.

Gideon Levy: “Was it really necessary [for Israel] to kill another 200 people in Gaza after signing the agreement? Was it really necessary to kill another 20, 30 children.. I’m ashamed for the killing of almost 200 people in the last 48hrs. Wasn’t it enough, 48,000 people?”
