2024 Kathmandu World Social Forum (WSF)
Statement of the World Forum on Theology and Liberation (WFTL)
We, the 40 members of WFTL engaging on the theme of Politics and Religion from the Perspective of Liberation and Care, from 13 to 19 February 2024, make the following assertions:
• We oppose a Zionist reading of the Bible utilized as software in justifying the Israeli settler colonization of Palestine, going on for decades, that is producing the current and inhuman genocide of Palestine in Gaza and the West Bank. In a liberation perspective, we take Gaza as a key of theological interpretation, a turning point that will leave a mark on the articulation of the knowledge of God and its implications for life in the world today.
• We affirm the right of the indigenous people and feminist across the globe to express their faith and religious practices autonomously, using their own sociocultural traditions and belief systems. In this we condemn the colonial impositions of the Christian churches worldwide that have destroyed the spiritual agency of the indigenous people. We express solidarity with the resistance of indigenous people in asserting and reclaiming their indigenous and Christian identity.
• We denounce the unholy nexus between politics and religion that is becoming widely pervasive in the construction of religious nationalism in the different parts of the world. From the perspective of liberation and care, we assert the rights of minorities, honoring the diversities of religions and cultures, and different expressions of democracy that should mark the social fabric of any given society.

Bishop Attallah Hanna on the Flour Massacre
His Excellency Bishop Atallah Hanna, the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Sebastia, said on 2 March, 2024, that the flour massacre and the targeting of innocent civilians while they were waiting for some food supplies is a new massacre added to the series of crimes and massacres committed against our people. There are many injustices that this people have been subjected to since the Nakba until today, but despite all that, the Palestinians will remain committed to their affiliation, their principles, and their just cause, which is the noblest and most just cause in modern human history. Christians in these lands should not be neutral in the face of this tragedy at all. Some want us to be silent without giving importance to the current tragic events, but we will not accept that and we will not surrender to these suspicious projects that aim to make Christians isolated, isolated, and far from the concerns and concerns of their people, and they are an essential component. Of the components of this people. We warn of the danger of what is broadcast on some social media platforms of incitement, poison, and the broadcast of a culture of hatred. Some of these platforms target Palestinian Christians with the aim of brainwashing them, directing them in incorrect directions, and distorting their compass. How much we need awareness in this time, and how much we need wisdom and sobriety in this difficult time, so that some people can distinguish between the white thread and the black thread. Our hearts are with our people in Gaza, as they are with every suffering and suffering human being in this world. Wherever there is pain and sadness, our bias is primarily with the suffering human being. The horrific scenes of death, starvation and abuse must move everyone to express an honest and noble position demanding an end to the war and this horrific tragedy, the bill of which is paid by the civilians of our people, especially the children.

My friend @JasonJonesVPP, a Christian conservative, speaks loudly and clearly about Israel’s killing of civilians in Gaza. He also refutes the claims that Muslims are the ones killing Christians in Gaza by telling the story of how Israeli forces shot at my Muslim friends who tried to save my sister’s life a few days ago. Soon, I will be able to share more about the details of how Israel indirectly facilitated the killing of my sister and how Palestinian Muslim heroes risked their lives to rescue my mom. At the same time, it was too late to save my little sister. This is a story no American media wants to cover or ask me about, but we will not be silent.
On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, the Council of Churches of the city of Beit Sahour organized a symposium entitled “Palestinian Christians and Advocacy in Light of the War of Extermination,” which was presented by Pastor Munther Ishaq. The symposium took place on the campus of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the city of Beit Sahour. Christian clergy, representatives of city institutions, representatives of the Islamic Society and a number of people interested in this matter participated in this symposium. This symposium is considered the first of a series of religious and cultural community seminars that the Beit Sahour Council of Churches seeks to hold, aiming to interact with the issues of the Sahouri community. The symposium was moderated by Engineer Nihad Al-Hawash, and interventions and discussions were held by the attendees.
