Doctors without Borders – MSF

After a day’s delay, I have just crossed the Rafah crossing to visit MSF teams in the #Gaza Strip. The sea of humanity as you enter is overwhelming, people are everywhere. A ground invasion of Rafah would be catastrophic and must not be allowed to happen.

“The current situation in Gaza is catastrophic and words can’t describe it.” In rare contact with one of our staff members in northern #Gaza, MSF nurse Loay Harb describes the situation there, including the lack of food and the medical support he provides where he can.

On the night of 12/13 March, the Israeli military conducted operations in Jenin, in the West Bank, #Palestine. According to medical personnel at the MSF-supported Khalil Suleiman hospital, at around 3am, people standing in the hospital courtyard were fired on.

“In the last months, our team has witnessed bullets and tear gas grenades being fired at the facility, a minor being killed, ambulances being obstructed, and healthcare professionals being targeted.”

“Shooting people in a hospital, or any act of violence in a healthcare facility, is completely unacceptable. We unequivocally condemn the continued attacks on healthcare facilities. All medical facilities, workers and patients must be protected.”

On 12 March, in Jenin, Palestine, 6 people were shot inside the MSF-supported Khalil Suleiman Hospital compound, as reported by the hospital administration. Two of the 6 people were shot dead and 4 were wounded. Our project coordinator, Samuel Johann, recounts the incident
18 March 2024: MSF’s Secretary General, @Chris_lockyear
, crossed into #Gaza earlier today and provided us with this update, saying, “any ground invasion into Rafah would be an absolute catastrophe. It doesn’t bear thinking about. It would be a disaster upon a disaster.”
