22 Feb 2024: Last week, Israeli forces bombed and then raided the main hospital in southern Gaza, killing a patient and wounding six others inside the complex where thousands of displaced Palestinians have been taking shelter among the wounded. The World Health Organization (WHO) and partners gained access to the hospital, Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, to transport 14 critically injured patients on Sunday, February 18. Footage released today by the WHO shows staff and partners from the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the Palestinian Red Cross working on the patient transfers. The WHO said some patients had to be manually ventilated during their transfer, while others were able to leave the hospital under their own power. WHO representative Dr Richard Peeperkorn said: “We were shocked what we actually saw in Nasser Medical Complex. There’s waste everywhere. Electricity … was not working. Not working. Parts of the hospital are damaged and some severely damaged.” According to the WHO, more than 180 patients and 15 doctors and nurses remain inside Nasser Hospital.

Nasser hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, was shelled in the early hours of this morning, despite Israeli Forces having told medical staff and patients they could remain in the facility. Thousands of displaced people were ordered to evacuate it on 13 February.
Following shelling this morning, our staff reported a chaotic situation, with an undetermined number of people killed and injured. Since the attack, one of our colleagues remains unaccounted for.
Our medical staff have had to flee the hospital, leaving patients behind. Israeli Forces set up a checkpoint to screen people leaving the compound; one of our colleagues was detained at this checkpoint. We call for his safety and the protection of his dignity.
Israeli Forces are currently carrying out operations in Nasser hospital.
We call on them to immediately stop this attack, as it endangers medical staff and patients who are still stuck inside the facility.

LA Times – 15 Feb, 2024: Israeli forces stormed the main hospital in southern Gaza on Thursday, hours after Israeli fire killed a patient and wounded six others inside the complex…As troops searched hospital buildings, they ordered the more than 460 staff members, patients and their relatives to move into an older building in the compound that isn’t equipped to treat patients, the Gaza Health Ministry said. They were “in harsh conditions with no food or baby formula” and severe water shortages, it said. Six patients were left in intensive care, along with three infants in incubators with no staff to attend to them. The ministry said fuel for generators would soon run out, endangering their lives.
