Penn State University recently conducted a poll on the current attacks in Gaza, headed by Tamir Sorek, a professor who is a recognised scholar in sociology with a focus on Israeli-Palestinian dynamics. Here are the results:
1. Support for Genocidal Actions: 47% supported the Israeli army acting like the biblical Israelites under Joshua in Jericho, interpreted as killing all inhabitants of a conquered city.
2. Support for Expulsion from Gaza: 82% supported the forced expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza.
3. Support for Expulsion of Palestinian Citizens: 56% backed expelling Palestinian citizens of Israel.
4. Belief in Modern-Day Amalek: 65% believed in a modern-day “Amalek” (a biblical enemy often associated with Palestinians).
5. Application of Amalek Command: 93% of those who believed in a modern-day Amalek supported applying the biblical command to “wipe out Amalek.”
6. Support Among Younger Respondents: 58% of respondents under 40 supported the Jericho-like conquest scenario.
7. Expulsion Support Among Younger Respondents: 66% of respondents under 40 favored expelling Palestinian citizens of Israel.
8. Rejection of Extreme Measures: Only 9% of men under 40 rejected all notions of expulsion or genocide.
Note: The poll is in a Haaretz article published on May 28, 2025, titled “Yes to Transfer: 82% of Jewish Israelis Back Expelling Gazans.”
