Laim Van As, a Dutch-Israeli from the 435th Infantry Battalion of the Givati Brigade, participated in the genocide against Palestinians, destroying homes, participating in their burning, and sleeping in the homes of martyrs and displaced persons in Khan Younis.
The #March30Movement, represented by attorney Haroon Raza, has now filed a formal complaint to Dutch legal authorities, against Dutch citizen and IDF soldier Liam Van As, accusing him of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of genocide in Gaza.
The complaint provides detailed documentation of Van As’s involvement in these violations, including social media evidence showing his active service in Gaza as a member of the IDF’s 435th Givati Brigade. It outlines multiple instances where Van As is accused of participating in attacks on civilian infrastructure, religious buildings, schools, and homes, as well as occupying properties of displaced Gaza residents. These actions are said to contravene the Geneva Conventions and violate both international and Dutch criminal law.
The filing draws attention to the broader context of Israeli military operations in Gaza, highlighting reports of over 40,000 civilian casualties, including at least 15,000 children, since October 7, 2023. The complaint references interim measures issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and statements from various human rights organizations, underscoring the need for accountability for the widespread destruction and suffering in Gaza.
Key Allegations Against Liam Van As:
1. Destruction of Civilian Infrastructure: Participation in attacks on residential areas, religious sites, markets, and schools known to house civilians.
2. Occupation of Property: Taking possession of homes belonging to displaced Gaza residents.
3. Blockade Participation: Involvement in the blockade that has restricted access to essential goods, including food, water, and medical supplies.
4. Targeting Civilians: Directing attacks against non-combatant individuals, including journalists and medical personnel.
5. Use of Inhumane Warfare Tactics: Supporting military operations that employ tactics such as starvation and indiscriminate bombings.
Mr. Haroon Raza emphasized the critical importance of this legal action, stating, “The international community cannot remain silent in the face of such egregious violations of human rights and international law. It is imperative that the Dutch authorities fulfill their obligations to pursue justice and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”
The complaint also calls on Dutch authorities to consider revoking Van As’s passport and initiating immediate arrest and prosecution proceedings. This legal action is aligned with the Netherlands’ commitment to upholding international justice and human rights as mandated by Article 90 of the Dutch Constitution. The March 30 Movement urges the Dutch government and the international community to act decisively and uphold the principles of justice, human rights, and equality under the law.
