In a scathing investigative journalism piece, SkyNews wrote about the Hala company that ‘coordinates’ the passage of Palestinians through the Rafah crossing. It is more like extortion than coordination, and there are hundreds of Palestinians stuck in Rafah who could have crossed but have been unable to because they could not fundraise enough money to cross into Egypt.
Hala is headed by Ibrahim El-Ergany whom everyone in Egypt knows is a money-grabbing bully and who is more of a mobster than a businessman. The company charges $5000 per person and $37k per family.
On the Cairo in Exile podcast episode 106, journalist and researcher Mohannad Sabry discussed this very issue [in Arabic].
