12 April: Irish Clare Daley: The “Rules Based Order” is in roaring form. After six months of throwing international law on the bonfire, all to shield Israel from accountability, something has broken. Israel smashes norms, and other states increasingly follow suit. Every week a new low. We are in freefall.

Born, raised, represent San Antonio: “All of us have seen the tragedy of Gaza. We’ve seen how Netanyahu’s government has used US weapons to kill indiscriminately and create famine. I will not participate in this carnage. When Congress votes on sending more offensive weapons to Israel today, I will vote no. More than 25,000 women and children are dead. Tens of thousands of missiles and bombs have been levied on innocent civilians. We cannot escape what we see before us every day. Netanyahu has been reckless. His actions have not led to the release of the remaining hostages. He’s ignored their families. He’s ignored the president of the United States. He’s ignored his own people. We should not be sending offensive weapons to Israel right now
Liam Cunningham, an Irish actor known for his role in “Game of Thrones,” pointed out that the internet “will not forget” those who fail to speak up for Palestinians amid the ongoing war in Gaza. Cunningham, 62, mentioned that he had been involved in pro-Palestinian solidarity campaigns for four decades. During a Wednesday event in Dublin (April 24), he said many people in the industry had acknowledged his efforts but added, “What concerns me is that the people who do care and are not doing anything are, in my opinion, worse than the people who don’t care.” When asked if he had urged other actors to join the cause, Cunningham stated he couldn’t speak for anyone else. However, he warned, “The internet doesn’t forget. When this comes around, when the ICJ (International Court of Justice) and ICC (International Criminal Court) hopefully do their work honorably, it is going to come out.” He continued, “The option to say you didn’t know is not an option. You did know and you did nothing, you stayed quiet. I need to be able to look in the mirror, and that’s why I speak.” Cunningham also noted that for Irish people not to support Palestinians would be to “betray our own history.” He condemned the ongoing bombardment and genocide in Gaza, advocating for the protection of international law and stressing the need to stand against injustice. Ahmed Alagha, an Irish-Palestinian man, led a demonstration where he revealed that 44 members of his extended family had died during Israel’s attacks in Gaza. He accused Israel of “ethnic cleansing” and noted, “In the Gaza Strip, there are no safe locations to hide out from, to make an attempt to keep your family safe and sound.”

3 May: Chris Hedges@ChrisLynnHedges I was just informed by Max Alvarez, the Editor-in-Chief at The Real News, that they will no longer run my show. The reason for the cancellation, he said, is that my critiques of Biden, especially for the genocide in Gaza, jeopardizes his nonprofit status. My last show with Dennis Kucinich, who is running as an independent for Congress in Ohio, was removed from the site. – Chris Hedges
Civil Servants and the ConstitutionCivil Servants and the Constitution Yesterday, at our 20th protest since December, which we never thought would be necessary, we welcomed a special guest speaker. Former minister Jan Pronk who served for over 17 years for our country, held a compelling speech. His impassioned address not only recognized the unprecedented need for civil protest but also underscored a remarkable historical moment. More than 70 former Dutch ambassadors joined forces to voice dissent against the current Dutch policy on Israel’s Gaza offensive, a collective action unseen since 1813. From Pronk’s powerful speech, we’ve extracted a poignant snippet urging our government to take decisive action.
