An autonomous network of active duty service members across nearly all U.S. Armed Forces branches have released an open letter condemning Israel’s genocide in Gaza. “Support for the conduct of the IDF is unacceptable and inconsistent with our values in the US Armed Forces.”
Over 100 active duty military across Air Force, Navy, Army, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, as well as reservists and National Guard, and their families, have endorsed this open letter, which is anonymous and addressed to no one to protect the identities of those involved.
I’m told a letter of this nature has been desired generally for months, and that it was “Airman Bushnell’s protest” which sparked the impetus to craft the letter. It is *not* affiliated with any public-facing military advocacy groups or veteran organizations. Entirely autonomous.
The letter is the most those involved can publicly say, and is itself a major statement among the ranks over U.S. support of Israel’s actions. “It is undeniably evident that the Israeli Defense Forces are repeatedly and systematically committing war crimes in Gaza.”
“Our job is important to us and none of us would ever do the insane stuff the IDF is doing,” says one source who tells me the letter comes from a group of active duty military members that is “unapologetically patriotic.”
“It’s been a painful process these last few months not knowing what we could do until Airman Bushnell’s protest. Now a statement trying to be as inoffensive and black and white as possible is the least we can do.”
